Talking all things Trail Running.

This.blog

Blogging, there’s something I find uncomfortable about that word. There are certain undertones of self-indulgence that make me nervous to start rambling on about my – not all that remarkable – trail running adventures. We all have stories to share, advice to offer and tips to give. I have as much to learn as anyone.

This ‘blog’ is therefore more of a two way conversation between me, a keen trail runner and you; an aspiring trail runner, an interested on looker, an experienced road runner or something in between. I want you to see the stories I tell and the tricks I suggest as the opening of a dialogue that will mean we can ALL have the best possible experiences out on the trails.

This ‘blog’ certainly will plunge head first into the wonderful sport of trail running, but please dive in with me. Think about what I have to say and ask questions, challenge me, even disagree with me, just get involved. A piece of writing becomes self-oriented and stale when there is no one to share it with. So this is written for all of us in the trail running community, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts and your own stories soon.

I’m not the fastest. I’m not the strongest. I haven’t run the furthest, or for the longest. But that’s not what trail running is about. So I decided to start this ‘blog’ – read as, tiny wordy snippets of trail running joy – to welcome you all into the world trail running.

As a Secondary School Maths teacher in the day, I find myself leading a strange double life; the Hannah Montana of the trail running world if you will . Whereby I take the trails most mornings before school, and without fail I will be out exploring every weekend. Over the past two years (YES, I’m still a newbie too) I have been so fortunate to have been taken in by the guys at Maverick Race and Inov8 and given the opportunity to run some amazing trails. I have raced, I have recced, I have trotted around on my own free will and I’ve got lost. But since taking up the sport of Trail running I have learnt a lot that I want to share with you all, and hear what you all think.

The most important thing to know about me is that I absolutely adore Trail running. The freedom of the outdoors is cleansing. Trail running is therapy for when you need it and a challenge for when you want it. The Trail running community is all different types of weird, and that is why everyone can belong in it. It is inclusive, diverse, accepting and non-judgmental.

Through these blog posts I’ll cover all of these things and hopefully encourage you to give trail running a go, give you a kick up the bum to go on that adventure you’ve been too scared to try, or enter that race that you’ve been ‘thinking about’.
